
Prof. Aksoy graduated from Istanbul University Istanbul Faculty of Medicine in 1997. She completed her specialization in Otorhinolaryngology at Marmara University Faculty of Medicine in 2002. Prof. Aksoy has added significant international experience to her professional career. In 2004, she worked at the Voice and Swallowing Center of the Presbyterian Hospital at Columbia University in New York, USA, alongside Prof. Dr. Jonathan E. Aviv and Prof. Dr. Thomas Murry, where she received training in endoscopic swallowing assessment, transnasal esophagoscopy, and microlaryngeal voice surgery. She obtained the FEEST (Flexible Endoscopic Evaluation of Swallowing) certification in 2005, and in 2016, she had the opportunity to work with Prof. Dr. Peter Belafsky at the UC Davis Voice and Swallowing Clinic.
Prof. Aksoy is a member of several prestigious organizations, including the Turkish Ear, Nose, and Throat and Head and Neck Surgery Foundation (TKBBV, 1998), the Turkish Ear, Nose, and Throat and Head and Neck Surgery Association (TORL, 1998), the Istanbul Ear, Nose, and Throat and Head and Neck Surgery Association (2008), the European Laryngological Society (2004), AOCMF (AO Craniomaxillofacial) membership (2011), the European Society for Swallowing Disorders (ESSD, 2017), and the Skull Base Society (2018, Board Member 2020-2022).
Collaborative Surgeries and Areas of Cooperation
Prof. Aksoy’s collaboration with Elmacı Neurosurgery Institute (ENI) has made a significant contribution, especially in skull base surgeries. In various complex cases, such as anterior skull base tumors and endoscopic endonasal pituitary adenoma surgeries.
In anterior skull base surgery, the coordinated work of the ENT and neurosurgery teams allows for the combination of the knowledge and techniques from both disciplines, leading to more successful outcomes. Endoscopic approaches result in less trauma and a faster recovery process.
